What happens when GaryShapiro, CEO of the biggest consumer technology show in the planet – CES;decides that the most important decision-makers in the electronics industry should meet annually to talk about the latest global trends? The answer came in the form of the World Electronics Forum (WEF). The WEF gathers worldwide leaders of the technology industry, mainly the heads of major companies as well as directors of electronic industry organizations, for an annual closed-door business meeting to discuss the key topics shaping their different sectors.
The three-day event was held from 5-7 October in the French town of Montbonnot-Saint-Martin in Isère,close to Grenoble and a mere stone’s throw from BeFC’s head offices.
The event was made possible thanks to the hard work and dedication of WEF 2022 president Laurent Hérault. Known as France’s Silicon Valley, Grenoble is the leading European hub in the microelectronics sector and can boast over 42,000 tech-related jobs within a 20km radius of the city. The decision to hold the WEF in Grenoble was concrete evidence of the esteem placed in this European microelectronics cluster.
The meeting helped forge strong networking links and facilitate cooperation and innovation on a global scale. BeFC was proud to have been selected to attend this prestigious event with CEO Jules Hammond pitching his company’s alternative to miniature batteries – a sustainable, paper-based micro biofuel cell to the global microelectronics specialists.
BeFC’s CEO and co-founder, Jules Hammond, enjoyed participating in this elite think tank. He was able to connect and exchange with many electronic industry players research institutes, and other industry leaders. He introduced our environmentally friendly battery alternative and active sensor tags to representatives from major internationals as well as public sector research institutes.
One of the main themes of the event was to address global environmental challenges through electronics and digital innovations a theme that mirrors BeFC’s own mission. BeFC’s team of scientists and engineers have succeeded in designing a cost-effective alternative to low-voltage batteries that is both environmentally friendly and non-polluting. In fact, this biofuel cell is manufactured from organic materials. The biofuel cell is accompanied by a digital sensor module, powered by the biofuel cell, which enables the harvesting of high-quality data including pH and blood pressure amongst others. This paper-based cell was designed as a more responsible energy source and it is BeFC’s ambition to facilitate the use of environmentally friendly energy sources such as its biofuel cell, but in a way that also meets the needs of industry.
The feedback we received from the World Electronics Forum was proof that BeFC is not alone and that there is a real desire within industry to make changes for the better, using technology that will meet end users’ desires, but without harming the planet.
At the WEF’s Startup Village, Dr Hammond exhibited BeFC’s biofuel cells alongside innovative companies such as baio-dox and HawAI.tech. We are pleased to announce that BeFC’s core technology won the World Electronic Forum’s GreenIT Award – an award made on the basis of BeFC’s potential and as a catalyst for change.
